5 Steps to Take Before Auction Day

IronClad_AssuranceInterested in participating in one of our auctions? Take these five steps now to make your auction day used heavy equipment purchase as easy and streamlined as possible.

1. Sign up with IronPlanet and get pre-qualified to bid

First things first: Set up your IronPlanet account. Once you're a registered user, you can then apply for approval to bid at varying levels. You’ll also get access to our Practice Auction, where you can experience what an auction will look like ahead of time, and to the Watch List tool, where you can save items to look at later and get email updates on items you've saved.

2. Explore items up for auction and read inspection reports

Now that you have your account set up, use our search and browse tools to find the equipment that meets your needs. Each piece of equipment has an inspection report from one of our professional inspection team members, and the reports are guaranteed with our IronClad Assurance®: What you see in the report is what you’ll get when the equipment is delivered.

3. Save searches and add items you’re interested in to your Watch List

If you have specific search terms you know you’ll be using frequently, save those searches on our website. And IronPlanet’s Watch List tool lets you save particular items you’re interested in for later, so you can keep researching while keeping track of what you’ve already examined. Compare starting bid pricing, mileage, year and more at a glance.

4. Work with our recommended partners to become pre-approved for financing

Consider GE Capital, Cat Financial or (for trucks) DriveItNow to help you finance your purchase. All three specialize in equipment financing and are familiar with IronPlanet’s processes.

5. Be prepared for payment and checkout: Tax exemption status, delivery address and transport

When you make a purchase, you’ll need a few pieces of info at the ready: Sales tax exemption status and the equipment delivery address. Have those on hand to finalize your purchase quickly. We also suggest getting transportation quotes in advance of the auction day; on item pages, use the Shipping & Pick Up Details section to get instant estimates on transportation from our preferred partner, VeriTread. Veritread can also act as a customs broker for you across the U.S./Canadian border for a flat rate.
